Or.. They're just tired of weird heteronormativity that demands the shorter, smaller one is the bottom???

It really is this simple and I'm kind of amazed some people don't get this.

Is it always about heteronormativity? No. But a lot of the time it is and it is also one of those patterns that once you see it and it starts to irk you you see how prevalent it is and it irks you even more.

Oh we get it. We just don't care that our ids are not in perfect alignment with WGST 101.

Yeah, when I complain about it, this is why. I'm tired of people just defaulting the smaller, shorter character into the bottom role even when it would make no sense with their personality.

Secret OP here and bro, me too (I only want stuff where the shorter/smaller guy is the top so I totally get the frustration). The problem is how the justify their desire: saying that it's regressive to not have their ship switch.
This goes in both direction. Like, as in me desiring the smaller guy to be EXCLUSIVELY the top. They called me out as regressive because I don't like the reverse and wtf honestly lol (they implied it's not an "egalitarian" relationship if they don't switch???). This in the context of me simply stating my preference and the fact that I only read stuff is character X is bottom only, not demanding that the fandom only write stuff like I want. IDGAF what other people do, I just wanted to talk about my favourite ship with my friends. I'm still baffled, honestly. My friends are all in their 30s...

Exclusively receiving anal to own the libs?

DA, but seriously. It gets a lot easier to talk about fandom things with people who are willing to leave aside pretensions at having moral high ground.

A fictional relationship may be more to someone's taste if the two characters switch, or less their thing if there's switching. Same difference with fixed preferences for who bottoms. But "everyone should write this" is already wrong, and "for bullshit reason claiming it's more moral the way I like it" just picks fights. Which is not what you're doing, and I appreciate that.

I wish more of fandom had the sense to treat "I like this" as a good enough reason, and stop reaching for rationalizations that are basically tacked-on and unconvincing to everyone who doesn't already want the same thing. Because that second way of arguing makes for so many interpersonal conflicts in fandom and so much trouble.
