Even if he'd survived Maul, all Qui Gon would have done would have meant his eventual death due to being an impediment to Palpatine's plans would have pushed Anakin off the edge faster. He'd have built more of an emotional attachment, and Anakin just could not handle that emotion due to his early upbringing on Tattoine. Qui Gon found him too late to change that. Palpatine just had too much power, and Anakin was too much of a rage-monkey. Only Yoda was in the right about him. Train this hot mess of a kid, do not! Yoda was right!
