I like the ship because I like Viktor and feel he's totally smitten with Jayce but I don't actually like Jayce. I wouldn't read fic and rarely seek out fanart because a large part of the fandom has decided to make Viktor trans without tagging so I also kind of ignore the ship.

So do I.

I get that some dynamics do well with it, but "babygirl" has been used so frequently - and often with characters who wouldn't! - that I usually cringe and backbutton when I see it used.

No, but the type of people who want to... turn an existing American TV show into their own personal soapbox would probably find it distasteful to do so while keeping it so openly pro-military, and they'd have a hard time removing the military elements from this particular show.

Like I remember there was an interview with a guy working on one of the recent HALO games who talked about how disgusted he was by the use of guns in games, and how he could only do so by working on future sci-fi ray guns which makes it different, and I'm like "This is clearly not a good fit for this chap".

And that's why the Star Wars sequels were a duology that ended with "The Last Jedi" in my world.

da but honestly this. It takes practice. Some will be better than others but you definitely need to work at it and get tips if you can. I met a famous drummer once (think doumbek/goblet drum, the kind you hit with your hands) who kind of laughed and shrugged when I complained about having short fingers... because he did too!

Jayce has a really dumb face, lol. I like his character design from mid season 2 onwards, but in season 1 I just want to smack the living hell out of him every time I see him smiling.
But I actually like him as a character. He's just... unhinged and insane. He's not a very "good" character, he fucks up literally EVERYTHING he touches and thinks he's a good person while being the most egotistical prick ever. He also has a happy trigger on his suicidal ideation. Literally on his first episode he almost kill himself because he can't work his research. LMAO love that for him. He then proceeds to become a paranoid councillor that fucks over the undercity EVEN MORE and then he has hallucinations and basically becomes schizophrenic after he's touched by the arcane. LOL what a character arc. He's also very prone to manipulation and that really fucks with his agency in the story.
Viktor is the "good" character with strong morals, but he fucks up due to desperation and isolation (and he's fucked over by Jayce not respecting his wishes regarding the Hexcore).

Jayvik is my main ship these days, but the fandom is MMMMH sometimes VERY good, but most of the time not that good at all. I'm glad people are having fun and from what I've seen they don't take themselves too seriously, but a lot of people really need to learn how to tag their shit.

Honestly I feel the same so much about whatsherface (Powder?). I couldn't even finish season one because I hated her so much lol.

Does he (their relationship) improve past episode 1-2? I couldn't keep watching because I couldn't stand the 'ahhhh boobs, I want a gf!'.

I assume it's like the BBC America "The Watch" or the Mindy Kaling "Velma". You want to do some bullshit show, you don't have the talent to make something worth watching, and you don't have enough name recognition to trick people into watching it, so you skin something people love, and fill the fleshy sack with your own rubbish?

In the case of the Halo guy, I assume he THOUGHT he would have more control to push the thing he wanted to make INTO the empty skin of the thing he had to make.

Yes it does, they build a dynamic that is very sweet to me anyway, and a deep friendship. The lowbrow/horny comedy and general subject matter of sexuality stays a part of the series, though, so it's totally fair to drop it if you don't care for that.

For me, the cringey sex comedy captures the awkwardness and painfulness of teen/young adult sexuality well, especially whenever two damaged and emotionally unstable characters interact, but I certainly understand why watching it or just, spending time in the POV of a boob-obsessed teen boy is not everyone's cup of tea.

You are missing out on the Tumblr fandom. The Tolkien Tumblr fandom has all different types. There are lots of book-only fans.

That's my view too as TROS is the one canon thing I don't like. And for me the EU ends with the Hand of Thrawn duology.
