No, they don't.

Re: Favorite Spin-offs/sequels

(Anonymous) 2025-05-15 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Aliens is my favorite movie.

For these I like the first movie best, but really enjoy these sequels, too: Jaws 2, Superman II, Halloween II, Halloween H20, Die Hard 2: Die Harder, Live Free or Die Hard, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi, Star Trek Beyond, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, Incredibles 2, Toy Story 2, Toy Story 3, Final Destination 2, Final Destination 3, Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Fast & Furious, Fast Five, Furious 7, Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Fright Night Part 2

I go back and forth as to whether I like the original or the sequel more for Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, Happy Death Day 2U, Spider-Man: No Way Home

The Last Crusade is my favorite Indiana Jones movie (I also liked The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, the teenage Indy eps, at least), Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is my favorite Harry Potter movie. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol is my favorite Mission Impossible movie. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is my favorite Captain America movie.

Not a really a good movie, but Grease 2 is just fun with catchy songs.

Speed 2: Cruise Control is a terrible movie, even with Sandra Bullock being her plucky, goofy, charming self and Willem Dafoe being an even more unhinged villain than the Green Goblin. From the explanation as to why Jack Traven isn't there to the slow crash into the dock, it's bad. But still, I kind of like watching it.

Perfectly fair enough. I expect the same grace be shown to me when I feel the same disappointment about female characters. Whether I receive that grace or not, I still understand the unreasonable feeling of watching a show because it satisfies your desires, and then finding the disappointment as the actors become less desirable.

Which, BTW, is just ANOTHER reason I think this "Make every animation into live action" trend is going in the wrong direction. Make every live action animated. Cartoons don't age. Cartoons don't gain weight. Cartoons don't sag. Cartoons stay hot forever.

Sure, but because of this "Writing by the seat of our ass" thing, we got Seven of Nine.

I think we made out pretty like bandits on that deal. Less pointed story, more pointed boob socks. Couldn't be happier.

Re: I hate being bad at video games

It's 100% practice. Practice brings talent, and perspective. And of the two I think it's the perspective that's harder to achieve.

Like you don't hate being bad at video games, you hate being invested enough to want to know what happens, but not invested enough to care about getting progressing. You hate that you don't get the same sense of reward from beating the challenge as you do from finding out the next part of the story. Not a judgement, btw, no matter how it sounds, that's not my meaning.

Just an assumption, but I'll tell you how I arrived at it. I LOVE Baldur's Gate 3. But I just can't, no matter what, give a shit about the 400 menu's and radial options and very detailed and nuanced and admittedly very clever control scheme. I just don't vibe on RTS stuff. Give me a list if I HAVE to have 4000 options in any moment, but I'd always rather just press a button, or a series of buttons and have it directly tied to the action.

I'm sure I could LEARN to appreciate the radial confusion... but it just loses me.

Six-pack vs. Eight-pack (or Four-pack or even Two-pack)

(Anonymous) 2025-05-15 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Everyone's abdominal wall is made up of five different muscles that run from the ribs to the pelvis. The top layer, known as the rectus abdominis, is the longest muscle of the abdominal wall and is comprised of three fibrous bands that run vertically up the abdomen. Several fibrous tissues known as tendinous intersections run horizontally across the center vertical band, cutting the abdominal wall into sections, which eventually can give way to the appearance of six-pack abs.

The number of tendinous intersections you have indicates how many abs you show. This number is determined by genetics. Around 60% of the population is born with three tendinous intersections, which means most people would sport six-pack abs if they worked at it, according to multiple studies. Approximately 20% instead have four of these intersections, which make up eight distinctive abs. In rarer cases, a person may have fewer abs: about 15% of people max out at a four-pack and around 2% top out at a two-pack.

The number of abs you have has nothing to do with how strong your core is. Having an eight pack doesn't necessarily mean you have superior abs or stronger abs than somebody who was born with three of those tendinous intersections, where there are six sections. Some people just have more sections than others.

because I've had a hell of a day

dad has cancer in his upper intestine that's been contained to that area and he's going to have surgery in a couple of weeks. he's also got a smaller oesophagus so the surgeon is going to try and enlarge it.

this explains why he hasn't been eating like he should but he's also never had a large appetite. the surgeon is gong to cut out the cancerous part of the intestine and sew it together and hopefully he won't need an ostomy bag.

my sister trusts the surgeon. she's known him a long time (she used to be a nurse before she retired this year), so I'm going to trust that he knows what he's doing.

I'm still scared though. dad's 81. I don't know how much time I have left with him. my cat hasn't left my side today because he knows I'm worried.

fucking hell

There is a LOT of modern world danmei though. I don't particularly like it because I prefer fantasy/historical but there is a LOT.

(Anonymous) 2025-05-15 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
ehhh...I mean, sure, anyone can make up a backstory if they've got ideas for it, but a canon like SW means future shows or whatever could still roll in and stomp all over your great ideas. that said, I've met a scant handful of fanfic authors in my *cough* decades of fandom who actually had the chops to come up with lore that fits the character and is convincing enough. most fanon is stupid shit like pop-tarts. I don't know the character but I'm guessing OP's point is that there's room for a smidge of lore which any and all fanfic writers could then run with.

It's been a long time since I've watched any of the sequels (and I only watched a few), but I recall like Aladdin 3 and Cinderella 3.

Same. I learned that maybe I do indeed have ADHD because when I can't get better at a game I give up. There are some things I can pick up on rather easily that my older brother struggled with, but we're complete opposites with gaming.

I think my brother has more patience to see himself lose and fail in video games and build up the skills to become a better player.
Whereas for me, I keep thinking button mashing will miraculously make me a better player every time I try to get better at a game. And when I keep failing I just give up after a few hours/days/weeks.
Like...I'm OK at Mario Kart but playing against my brother, it's super obvious he's the gamer and I'm not LOL

I don't have the patience to watch a Let's Play either. I just ask my gamer siblings/friends what a game is about and listen to them explain. I still don't really know WTF the Final Fantasy games are about but one of my friends loved FF7 when we were teens.

I'm not religious but that movie has some great, spiritual songs that reach something in my soul every single time
It can't hold a candle to the mindblowing animation and visual storytelling that is Prince of Egypt but it is its cute little sibling in essence and my atheist ass loves them both to pieces
no matter your religion or non-religion, those songs and stories touch upon a human truth and speak to the heart and soul
